Remote Signaling in a Heterogeneous Unix Environment
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes the rsig remote process signaling system. It operates in a heterogeneous network of Unix workstations and provides users the ability to issue signals across machine boundaries. Some of the efficiency and all the conceptual and practical convenience of signals are afforded, in a manner similar to remote procedure calls.

Distributed Spooling in a Heterogeneous Environment
Distributed spooling systems exist for many homogeneoøs systems. In this paper we describe the overall architecture of a distributed spooling system for a heterogeneous environment. This system allows exchanging jobs among UNIX, VMS, VM/CMS, and MVS operating systems connected by a network which provides the internet protocol suite (tCr/IP). The system's primary purpose is remote printing, but ...
متن کاملNamed Pipes, Sockets and other IPC
The purpose of this paper is to discuss interprocess communication in the context of Windows 2000 and UNIX (Berkeley UNIX, System V, and SunOS). Special emphasis will be given to the system mechanisms that are involved with the creation, management, and use of named pipes and sockets. There will also be a discusssion of remote procedure calls and signals in the context of the UNIX environment. ...
متن کاملTILDE Trees in the UNIX Environment
ABSrRACf TILDE is a multi-year research project exploring distributed computing in an environment where the primary computing engine consists of a cluster of UNIX·liket systems loosely coupled with high-speed local area networks. The goal of 'IU.DE is to extend UNIX to provide a transparent integration of local and remote facilities, allowing the user access to remote files and services without...
متن کاملBond - A Parallel Virtual Environment
The Bond environment, currently under development at Purdue, allows execution of parallel progr.uns on sequential machines, clusters of sequential systems, and massively parallel syslems. Bond allows a group of users to share programs and data as wen as knowledge about past experiences in using parallel programs. The system uses severnl resource and knowledge bases to validate user's requests a...
متن کاملSupporting distributed applications in the Amadeus environment
Distributed programming is becoming commonplace, typically based on remote procedure call (RPC) and lightweight threads packages, possibly with an underlying distributed le service. In this article we argue that there are signiicant merits in providing an integrated distributed application environment, rather than merely augmenting one or more programming languages individually with an RPC pack...
